Belle Starr clerks office

Belle Starr Sandwith, a Sierra County Democrat from Loyalton, is running for Assembly District 1! AD1 spans 11 counties from Siskiyou and Modoc in the north, along the Sierra-Cascades—including Shasta and Lassen—all the way south to Amador and Alpine counties.

Belle will appear at the Shasta Dems monthly meeting on Monday, March 14 at 6 p.m., and at our fundraiser on March 20 along with Adam Schiff, April Verrett and Max Steiner.

At 6’2″, Belle is a larger-than-life Sierra Nevadan who was raised near Truckee, was an athlete at College of the Redwoods playing basketball and throwing discus, and eventually returned to her roots to open a restaurant on Donner Summit. She was a personal chef for the national tour of Indy Car drivers, and worked for years in TV production on live sports events, and as a digital scoreboard operator.

Belle is an experienced business owner who understands the needs of the many small communities of AD1, as well as the more urban foothill communities. Fire safety, mitigation and planning, and sound forestry practices are key issues for Belle, as they are for all mountain dwellers in the region that suffered the 2nd largest wildfire in the history of California in 2021, the Dixie Fire. Trained in public health, and living with a disability, Belle also understands keenly the importance of affordable healthcare for all.

Belle Starr Sandwith is dedicated to applying her many inherent strengths to advocate for all the residents of this vast district, and is, in a word, a POWERHOUSE!
